USB 3.0
12 January 2010 in Hardware ReviewWell, first a brief history of USB for y’all: As much as I can remember, it started out with USB 1.0, or low-speed, which transferred data at 1.5Mbps (Megabits per second). USB 1.1, full-speed, increased throughput to 12Mbps; USB 2.0, “hi-speed,” multiplied the transfer rate 40x! to 480Mbps. 2010 has come, and as promised USB 3.0, a.k.a. “SuperSpeed USB,” is starting to be released in real functional life. In other words, you can now, today, buy an external drive from us (Back To Basics Computer Services at 854-myPC) with SuperSpeed USB 3.0, lightning fast data transfer at 3.2 Gbit/s (that’s 3 Gigabits per second – better than 3 billion bits per second, or approximately 400 Million characters per second! That’s 2000 times faster than the original USB. Transfer all the data in a book with the snap of a finger (literally).
Who’s first on the block in technology? We are!
Come check out the amazing difference – I’m happy to demonstrate!
The Morning After
7 November 2009 in WindowsHappy Birthday to me! Bill Gates did better than call me for my birthday – he made an Operating System that rocks! I mean the thing basically installed itself. All I had to do was log in and let it set up the profile for first use…. and you know what? I LIKE it. I actually like the new Windows Operating System: I like the way it lets you see the desktop in the background no matter how many windows you have open. All you do is slide the cursor to the lower right of the screen and the windows become invisible. Drag away and they come back, or click while there and the desktop comes back.
Windows 7
6 November 2009 in WindowsAs I write, the Flagship of My Loaner PC Arsenal is getting its Windows 7 “upgrade.” Upgrade is kind of a farce being that it had XP on it, and therefore, the only way to “upgrade” was to perform a clean install.
In any case, I’m referring to a Loaner PC program, where, when you elect to borrow one of my PC’s while your computer is being serviced, you can enjoy the best today’s computer market has to offer. This gives you a taste of the fastest computing experience with the highest quality internal architecture so you can get a taste of the best there is in technology today.
When I left the office at 9:30 this evening, I glanced at the secondary LCD (secondary to another 32″ mammoth monitor in my small office), and read that it would restart itself several times during the installation. Hmmmm… sounds like it may actually complete most of the rest of the installation on its own. Guess we’ll find out in the morning.
